Scholarships

The University of Padova, the Veneto Region and other organisations offer various scholarship schemes to support students. Below is a list of the funding opportunities that are most often used by international students in Padova.

  Padova International Excellence Scholarship Programme

Starting from A.Y. 2018/19, the University of Padova will be offering a selected number of full scholarships to highly talented prospective students wishing to pursue an English-taught degree at Padova. The scholarship programme is highly selective. Only candidates showing the highest achievements and school / academic records may receive a scholarship.

Who can apply: highly talented prospective international students from all over the world wishing to enrol in one of University of Padova degree courses held in English. To be eligible, you must:

  • hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for 1st level degree applicants) or a non-Italian 1st level / Bachelor diploma (for 2nd level / Master degree applicants)
  • have been admitted to one of University of Padova degree courses taught in English;
  • not benefit of other national or international scholarships or grants.
  • be able to comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa;

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

  Regional Scholarships

The University of Padova, through the Veneto Region funding, supports low-income students (both Italian and international) enrolling in first, single or second cycle degrees and Phd courses.

Who can apply: any student meeting the below criteria:

  • have a low family income (ISEE below 23.000,00 euro and ISPE below 35.434,78 euro)
  • have been admitted to one of the University of Padova degree courses or Phd courses
  • comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa
  • do not benefit from any other national or international scholarship or grant
  • meet the merit criteria and other additional requirements specified in the Call

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

When to apply: applications usually open at the end of July and close at the end of September

Amount of scholarship: the amount of the scholarship varies according to your family income and other conditions specified in the Call. The scholarship may include both the exemption of tuition fees and a subsistence allowance, as well as free or discounted student services such as accommodation, meals at university canteens, etc.

Duration of scholarships
: scholarships will be offered for one academic year, provided that you meet certain conditions (academic achievements, number of credits etc.). The request must be renewed every academic year.

Required documents: in order to apply for a regional scholarship, you need to provide your so called “Equivalent Economic Status Index (ISEE)” which also includes ISPE. Check Key Documents for further information.

  Galileian School of Higher Education Scholarships

The Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori (Galilean School of Higher Education) is the University of Padova’s school of excellence. It combines traditional university education with a series of special in-house courses comprising seminars and lectures by renowned international visiting professors.

Thirty highly talented students, both Italian and international (up to four), are selected each year through a competitive selection procedure and/or examination. If you are admitted, you will attend University of Padova courses and will be provided with free board and housing, language courses and personal study and career tutoring. As an international student, you may additionally be offered a reimbursement of travel expenses and a living allowance.  You are expected to share rights and duties of all Galilean students.

Who can apply:  you are eligible to apply if you:

  • hold a non-Italian first level/Bachelor diploma
  • have been admitted OR are eligible to be admitted to one of University of Padova second-cycle degree courses
  • be no older than 26 at the time of application
  • be able to comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa

Available degree courses: you may choose any second-cycle degree course offered by the University of Padova

The scholarship package includes:  1 return ticket from/to your home country (up to 1.500 euros); free board and accommodation at University of Padova canteens and residences; reimbursement of documented expenses such as books, etc.; up to 5.000 euro living allowance. Other National and International Scholarships

  Italian Government Scholarships

Every year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation awards scholarships for studying in Italy to both International students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).   

The aim of these scholarships is to foster international cultural cooperation, spread the knowledge of the Italian language, culture and science, as well as promote the Italian economic and technological system throughout the world.

Who can apply: International students and Italian students, aged between 18-36, who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).  

Eligible courses: scholarship applications are open to students wishing to apply to one of the following type of courses offered by the University of Padova:

  1. Second-cycle or single-cycle degree courses
  2. PhD courses
  3. Professional courses
  4. Specialisation Schools
  5. Research under academic supervision

Language requirements:
Italian-taught courses: B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The language certificate is to be submitted together with the application: https://www.linguaitaliana.esteri.it/data/lingua/corsi/pdf/tabella_certificazioni.pdf.
English-taught courses: no Italian-language requirement; English-language requirements depend on the chosen degree course.

Applications will be assessed and selected by the Italian Diplomatic Missions of the candidate’s country of origin

Amount of scholarship: euro 900,00/month of max. 9 months (the amount may vary for 2018/19. Refer to the Call for detailed information).

  Invest Your Talent

Invest Your Talent in Italy supports talented international students wishing to enrol in English-taught second-cycle degree courses in the fields of Engineering and Information Technologies, Management and Economics at top-ranked Italian universities, including the University of Padova. The programme offers full scholarship packages including subsistence allowance, fee-waiver and dedicated student support services. A short internship at leading Italian companies is also foreseen as part of the programme. It is supported by the Italian Government and the Italian Trade Agency.

Who can apply: the programme is open to talented students who completed at least a Bachelor degree and come from one of the following countries: Azerbaijan, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Turkey, Tunisia and Vietnam (2017 edition). More countries are likely to be included in call 2018.

Available degree courses: student applying for “Invest your Talent in Italy” can choose among the following English-taught courses offered by the University of Padova:

Amount of scholarship:  8.000,00 euro/ academic year (gros) + full fee-waiver + free Italian language course

Duration of scholarships: scholarships will be offered for one academic year. It might be renewed for the second year upon certain conditions.

PhD Scholarships

  China Scholarship Council - University of Padova Scholarships - Deadline expired

The University of Padova and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have created a scholarship programme to enable talented Chinese students to undertake a PhD programme at Padova.
The scholarships build on Padova University’s existing relationship with China. It has, in fact, extensive research links with Chinese research institutions and Universities. This scheme provides Chinese students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential with the opportunity to study for a PhD at the University of Padova. They are supported jointly by the China Scholarship (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Padova.

  Gini Foundation: Grants for Foreign Nationals - Deadline expired

The Fondazione "Ing. Aldo Gini" supports those who plan to pursue a period of study and/or specialization in a department of the University of Padova in the scientific fields of Agriculture, Engineering or Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences for a period of at least six months and no more than one year.

  15 PhD grants for foreign students fully funded by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo - Deadline expired

The University of Padova, through funding from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo, offers research fellowships for foreign students to attend Doctoral Courses. During the 3-year doctorate programme, successful candidates are entitled to full board and lodging.
15 PhD grants for the admission of foreign candidates to doctoral courses (33rd series) a.y. 2017/18 are now available.

Deadline: 28th March 2017

Successful candidates must confirm their will to enrol by 3rd July 2017 either by sending a fax to number +39 049 8271934 (a copy of a valid ID document must be attached) or by sending an email to doctoral.grants@unipd.it or formazione.ricerca@unipd.it including a scanned copy of a valid ID document.
In the communication, they will have to confirm the choice of the Doctoral Course and of the curriculum (if any)
