International Mobility - Scholars

The University of Padova “promotes the furthering of culture founded on universal values such as human rights, peace, respect for the environment and international solidarity” (Article 1 of its Statutes, 1995). The international dimension of the University is not only witnessed by many spontaneous activities, such as the countless research cooperation projects individually promoted by teachers and researchers and the teaching now offered to as many as 1,500 regularly enrolled foreign students, but also by the existence of several bilateral agreements of ‘traditional’ type, extensive participation in European programmes for research and education, cooperation with developing countries, and – last, but not least – by committed participation in the project activities of the Coimbra Group (the network of historical European universities) as well as other excellence networks.

Internationalisation has always been an important priority for the University of Padova. With more than 100 bilateral agreements, the University has established long-standing relationships with Higher Education Institutions all over the world, not only in Europe but also in Africa, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East, aimed at encouraging international exchanges of teaching and administrative staff as well as students at all degree levels. These bilateral agreements reflect various forms of cooperation, which also include activities such as joint publications and exchange of information, to improve academic cooperation.

FP7 specific programme "People": calls for proposals

The European Commission has published the calls for proposals for 'Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development (IEF), Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowships for Career Development (IOF), Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IIF), under the FP7 specific programme People.

IEF: the call is expected to support the development or restart of experienced researchers' careers. Financial support will be granted to individual mobility proposals presented by researchers in liaison with host organisations established in the Member States or Associated Countries.

IOF: this initiative aims to reinforce the international dimension of European researchers' careers. It provides them with the opportunity to be trained and acquire new knowledge with a one to two-year experience in a high-level research organisation established in a Third Country, after which these researchers are expected to return and use their newly acquired knowledge and experience in a Member State or Associated Country.
Individual researchers shall submit a coherent research training project with their host organisation in a Member State or Associated Country.

IIF: Researchers moving from Third Countries to EU Member States or Associated Countries can apply for an IIF. The principal objective of this action is to reinforce the research excellence of the Member States and the associated countries through knowledge sharing and research co-operation with third countries.

To be eligible researchers must have either a doctoral degree or at least 4 years’ full-time equivalent research experience, after obtaining a degree permitting them to embark on a doctorate. All fields of research of interest to the European Union are eligible for funding, except those covered by the Euratom Treaty.

Deadline: August 14, 2013

Official calls announcement

EURAXESS – Researchers in Motion is a unique initiative, launched by the European Commission to promote research careers and facilitate the mobility of researchers across Europe.
EURAXESS develops its activities under the following 4 key initiatives:

Euraxess Jobs helps researchers to find jobs and funding opportunities, and offers research organisations (both public and private) to publish their adverts and look for the best talent to recruit. All is free of charge.

Euraxess Rights gives information on Researchers’ Rights (European Charter and Code) and on its implementation mechanism, the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers.

Euraxess Services is a network of over 500 people in 40 European countries assisting researchers and their families, and providing them with practical information on their stay in another country.

Euraxess Links is a virtual network to connect European researchers overseas

The University of Padova is one of the Local Contact Points (LoCP) of EURAXESS.
The LoCP:

  • provides assistance to researchers coming to or leaving the University of Padua
  • offers support on matters with mainly a local dimension
  • keeps in contact with the researchers and/or their families

Agreenskills is an open call for projects for young researchers (post docs) going to France, and coming from France.

Agreenskills is being launched by Agreenium, a consortium of research and higher education organizations specialized in agriculture. Agreenium consortium gathers two research organizations INRA and CIRAD (specialized in tropical agronomy), and four higher education institutions: Agroparistech (the agricultural university of Paris Grignon), Montpellier Supagro (the same in Montpellier), Agro Campus Ouest (the same in western France, in Rennes), and ENVT, the Veterinary university of Toulouse.

The call concerns ingoing and outgoing postdocs with France. The candidates have to present a research project and to choose a lab (in any of the six organization gathered in Agreenium). The call is opened permanently during four years, which means that the candidates can present a project at any moment of the year. There will be two selection periods each year during the same four years. A new call shall highly probably be launched after these four years.

The salaries are very attractive due to the fact that Agreenskills is a co-funded program (with the European Commission within the frame of the FP7 People 'CO-FUND' program), Europe adding a 'plus' to the grants given by the French part, which helps to raise a very high standard.

You will find in attachment a leaflet "AgreenSkills in brief" which contains a summary of the programme, and a detailed "Guide for applicants".
The candidates will find on Agreenskills portal, www.agreenskills.eu, some tools which will help them to find a lab (support in finding the appropriate lab is available online) , and if they have difficulties, the Agreenskills team will help them also into that path.

AgreenSkills: a continuous submission process with 2 selection rounds per year. Applications for eligibility check and matching process are analysed all year long. Two selection rounds are scheduled each year with strict deadlines for application. Next deadline 15 May 2013

Applicants are suggested to check the web sites:
INRA: www.inra.fr (pay particularly attention to INRA’s metaprograms)
Agreenium: www.agreenium.org (you will find all the other organizations websites addresses on this site).

The University of Padova is participating in the three Scholarship Programmes which the Coimbra Group has been offering in the last few years to young professors and/or researchers from specific geographical areas, which have enjoyed considerable popularity among the target groups:
- Scholarship Programme for Young African Researchers
- Scholarship Programme for Young Professors and Researchers from Latin American Universities
- Scholarship Programme for Young Researchers from Eastern Neighbouring Countries

The universities of the Coimbra Group participating in these programmes offer short-term visits to young researchers from HEIs located in the above geographic areas. The programme is mainly aimed at enabling scholars to undertake research projects in the same field in which they are engaged in their home institution and at helping them to establish academic and research contacts. The number of candidates who apply every year for a scholarship at the University of Padova for each of the three programmes is steadily increasing.

For information and application please refer to: www.coimbra-group.eu

Attention to developing countries has risen considerably thanks to Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (former External Cooperation Window), the European Commission programme designed to foster institutional cooperation in the field of higher education between the European Union and developing countries, through a mobility scheme addressing student and academic exchanges for studying, teaching, training and research.
Participating countries are grouped together in geographical areas called lots. Each project is coordinated by a European University and offers scholarships for the targeted mobilities from and to that geographical area.
Until now, the University of Padova has been involved in 12 successful projects and is currently coordinating two of them (artess and BAPE). These projects have enabled the University of Padova to expand its network of international relationships to Asia and Latin America.

The University of Padova welcomes outstanding international scientists.
Proposals must be presented only by professors or researchers of the University of Padova, who are "inviting" the international scholars. Visits generally last 1 to 2 months.
