Characteristics and objectives
The master course provides, based on the solid background acquired during the bachelor degree, a thorough understanding of the different areas of computer engineering, business organization and telecommunications. As for specific training in the field of computer engineering, the course covers all theoretical and applied topics essential in the cultural background of a graduate in the field, such as theory of computation, analysis of algorithms, operating systems, architectures of computer systems, computer networks and databases. In addition, completing this course, the graduated is expected to have acquired advanced knowledge of many specialist subjects of considerable application impact that correspond to the specific courses that have been selected from a varied offer. The course final aim is to form a professional that is able to use the broad spectrum of gained knowledge to interpret, describe and solve, even in an innovative way, computer engineering problems that require a high degree of specialization and possibly an interdisciplinary approach. The student can choose between three different career paths: computer science, telematics and management. The graduates will be able to design, analyze and manage complex and/or innovative computer systems; to design and manage sophisticated processing systems for conducting highly complex experiments; to provide highly qualified consultancy in projects involving the use of information technology and telecommunications.

The educational profile of the Master in Computer Engineering allows the graduate to design, implement and manage complex IT systems. However, it should be noted that the diffusion of information processing and transmission methods and tools in each sector of activities makes as virtually unlimited the field of engineering computer applications. Computer engineering methods and tools are required in every field of application, from the analysis to design, implementation, and management of computer and information systems. Some possible job opportunities include: design and implementation of corporate and public administration information systems, development of multimedia and distributed systems and applications, search engines and Web applications, design and development of integrated systems for the supervision of a plant.
