Nicola Sartori si è laureato in Scienze Statistiche presso l'Università di Padova nel 1997 e ha ottenuto il dottorato di ricerca in Scienze statistiche presso la stessa università nel 2002.

È stato ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Statistica dell'Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia dal 2004 al settembre 2010 e presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche dell'Università di Padova da ottobre 2010 a novembre 2011. Dal dicembre 2011 al dicembre 2018 è stato Professore Associato. Dal dicembre 2018 è Professore Ordinario.

È membro dell'International Statistical Institute e della Royal Statistical Society e ha trascorso periodi di visita presso l'Università di Toronto (Visiting Scholar, Ottobre 1999 - dicembre 2000; Visiting Professor, Ottobre 2018 - Giugno 2019), Northwestern University (predoctoral Fellow, Gennaio 2001 - giugno 2001), Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (ottobre 2006 - dicembre 2006) e University College di Londra (settembre 2014 - dicembre 2014).

È Associate Editor di Stat - The ISI's journal for the Rapid Dissemination of Statistics Research (2015-) e di Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference (2017-).
